Ok, just to let you know what I have been up to for my own reference and anyone who cares. Because these past few months have been busy and chaotic. And chaotic is just the word I am focusing on for all my three Fortnite Creative Islands. I would like to start with my first one: CARDBOARD MAYHEM This first map took me ages to build and has got the most time and effort put into it. It is situated in and around Amsterdam. An energetic city and the capitol of The Netherlands, where I lived a couple of years. A perfect starting point for my first endeavor which has enough scenery and historical buildings to fill it up. Hopefully with some fun for the players too. Before I began, I already had the idea of giving the world a cardboard / paper look. The rough feeling of paper texture and being able to transfer this into a virtual world, could give this map exactly the thing to let it stand out. Because you need to stand out and be different or your map will never have eyes one them.

Starting in Blender, I blocked out area's I really needed to incorporate into this world. The Central Station, Damrak with the monument, The Ferry boats behind the CS to other parts of Amsterdam, a parc called "Vondelpark", The Arena soccer stadium, The Red Light District (which words I couldn't use for a public game off course), Zaandstad windmills, Souvenir shops, The Canal houses and Sea Palace Chinese Restaurant all needed to be in there. I looked for reference photo's on the internet and played with a mixture of cardboard and realistic looks. Game design also has a lot of technical aspects players don't think about, like: 1. Objects can't be to massive to load, so keep it light and simple 2. Textures need to be optimized and also can't be too big 3. Scale and playability should be good enough I made the first idea on paper, build it from scratch in Blender and imported everything in Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN). I can't believe this piece of software is available for free, like Unreal Engine. After spending hours and hours in the program, watching days of tutorials, I really felt this was going to work! Ok, there are always thing that can't be done, things that give numerous errors and things that looks better in your mind than on the screen, but after a few months of hard work and sweat, this virtual world was getting closer and closer to the end.

What started out as an idea, now became something where players could enjoy, discover some things about Amsterdam and battle each other. I'm building and updating this map every week, so don't miss out on the progress! Fortnite Creative Island map code: 2900-0176-8962
